Spinach, also known as Persian spinach, red-rooted spinach, parrot spinach, etc., belongs to the genus Spinacia in the family Amaranthaceae and is an annual herbaceous plant. Spinach originated in Iran and is widely grown in China. Today we will introduce spinach cultivation techniques.

1. Seed treatment

The spinach growing method is broadcasting. Before sowing, first soak the seeds in water for 12 hours, then place them in the refrigerator to chill for 24 hours, take them out and place them in an environment at 20-25 degrees to promote sprouting; they will sprout in about 3-5 days.

2. Sowing and raising seedlings

Sow once the seeds have sprouted. To ensure yield, sow about 3.5kg per mu, water thoroughly once after sowing, cover with 2-3cm of soil, and keep the soil moist; the seedlings will come up evenly in about one week.

3. Field management

Spinach has strong growth vigor, and once the seedlings emerge they can simply be left to grow on their own; however, to ensure yield, thinning is needed when true leaves appear, and weeds can be removed promptly at the same time as thinning. When 3-4 true leaves have grown, a thin application of fertilizer water can be given; when fertilizing, it should not be too concentrated, so as to avoid root burn and death caused by excessive fertilizer strength.

There are many types of spinach, which can be divided by seed form into two varieties: prickly-seeded and smooth-seeded.
