How to care for the Boston fern? Master these care tips for fuller, more luxuriant fronds
The Boston fern is native to tropical and subtropical regions and is found in Taiwan, China. It has very high ornamental value and is suitable for hanging indoor pot cultivation. So how do you care for a Boston fern?
1. Soil
For pot cultivation, use a mixed potting soil of leaf mold, river sand and garden soil. If conditions allow, sphagnum moss can be used as the growing medium, and the Boston fern will grow even better. Repot once every other year in spring.
2. Watering
The Boston fern has fairly strict water requirements, and it is best to keep the potting soil consistently moist. In summer, spread some wet sand on the ground around the flowerpot and spray some water to raise the ambient humidity. In winter, when room temperature is low, reduce watering and keep the soil only slightly moist.
3. Temperature
The Boston fern likes a warm environment. The optimal growing temperature is 15-25°C, and the overwintering temperature should not be lower than 5 degrees. In winter, it is best to keep room temperature above 6°C. If the lower old leaves are found to be yellowing and withered, prune them promptly to keep the plant's shape attractive.
