How to raise koi fry? Breeding methods and key technical points
Nowadays many people like keeping ornamental fish, and among them koi is a species deeply loved by people, and koi has also been a symbol of good fortune since ancient times. So how do you raise koi fry?
1. Feeding
Small fry are usually quite fragile. To keep koi fry alive, you must first pay attention to what the small fry eat. You can feed the small fry bloodworms, soy milk, milk powder and other foods. When the small fry grow to more than 20 days old, you can feed them slightly larger foods such as mealworms; when they grow to over ten centimeters, you can feed them germ-based feed; when they grow a bit larger to around 25 cm, you can use staple food combined with germ as their food, feeding the small fry.
2. Fish tank
If there are too many small fry, you must first check the volume of the container to see whether it can hold them. You must make sure that during the rearing process, problems such as the fish tank leaking or seeping water do not occur. Check whether the filtration and oxygen can supply what the koi being raised consume or use at that density. When raising small koi fry, a reasonable density is very important, mainly to keep the ecosystem in the water balanced.
3. Water quality
The water used to raise fish must be colorless and transparent, with no turbidity; in terms of temperature, it is best at 22~28°C, and sudden changes in water temperature should be avoided as much as possible, with the difference not exceeding 2°C, otherwise it will directly harm the koi's health; when the normal dissolved oxygen level reaches 5~7mg/L, it relatively meets koi breeding conditions; koi are suitable for living in weakly alkaline water, so an alkalinity of around 6~8.5 is normal; the ammonia and nitrogen content in the water must not exceed 0.1mg/L, otherwise it will threaten the koi's health. Chemical substances such as ammonia nitrogen are harmful to aquatic organisms, and excessive levels will directly cause koi death.
Koi are still relatively easy to feed and quite simple to raise, and raising them at home is pleasing to the eye and can also cultivate one's character.
