Eggplant aphids cause great damage, how can they be controlled effectively?
Eggplant is one of the vegetables we commonly eat, and no matter how it is prepared, it tastes very delicious. The method of growing eggplant is not complicated, but during the specific growth process, pest damage easily occurs, such as the common aphid disease. So what harm does eggplant aphid disease cause? How to prevent and control it?
1. What harm does eggplant aphid disease cause?
Eggplant aphids often gather on the undersides of leaves or on newly grown stems, then use their piercing-sucking mouthparts to suck the sap from the eggplant, and then secrete honeydew that contaminates the eggplant. In this way, the eggplant leaves will show phenomena such as curling and shrinking. If the symptoms are relatively mild, they will only cause the leaves to turn yellow or the green color to be somewhat uneven; in severe cases, the whole plant will wither, and it may even fail to form a head. Aphids not only cause feeding damage, but also spread other viruses and can also cause reduced yield. If growers do not pay attention, losses in production will occur.
As for aphids, in early spring their growth rate is somewhat slow. When the temperature gradually rises, aphids will reproduce in large numbers, especially before early summer. As rainfall increases in early summer, aphids will decrease somewhat, then in autumn they will begin to reproduce again, and when the temperature drops in winter they will gradually decrease again. Therefore, late spring and early summer, as well as autumn, are all periods of high aphid incidence.
2. How to prevent and control eggplant aphid disease?
Method 1: To eliminate aphids, you must first start from the overwintering period after eggplant flowering, as this will make the efficiency better. If control is carried out only when aphids are reproducing fastest, the effect is not very obvious, and aphid eggs are very likely to remain.
Method 2: If eggplant seedlings are newly introduced, they must be screened to see whether other new pests have invaded. Normally, the soil should be disinfected so as to clean up aphid eggs.
Method 3: If a large number of aphids are found in the eggplant field, they should be isolated in time, and professional pesticides should be selected to eliminate the pest.
Method 4: In areas with the conditions, plant fewer cruciferous vegetables in summer, clean the field, so as to cut off or reduce the aphid source and virus source of autumn vegetables.
Method 5: Use silver film to repel aphids. First spread 17cm-wide silver-gray film around the seedbed, then hang strips of silver-gray film above; lay silver-gray film strips at intervals in the vegetable field. This can not only repel aphids, but also reduce the migration of winged aphids that transmit viruses.
Method 6: Make a good sowing plan in advance and implement scientific crop rotation and intercropping. Before sowing eggplant, thoroughly prepare the land and plow it, then remove weeds and crop residues at the field edges, and take them in a concentrated way to a place far from the farmland for harmless treatment, so as to reduce the occurrence of pest sources and pest damage. Strengthen vegetable garden management. When pest damage is found, pesticide control should be carried out immediately.
Once eggplant suffers from aphid disease, the above methods should be used promptly for thorough control, so as to avoid greater harm and the phenomenon of reduced yield.
