How to plant four o'clock flower seeds? Detailed sowing method
Many friends want to grow four o'clock flowers, but do not know how to succeed, so let's take a look at how to plant four o'clock flower seeds!
1. What is the four o'clock flower?
The four o'clock flower is a wildflower, scientifically named Mirabilis jalapa, an annual herbaceous plant of the Nyctaginaceae family and the Mirabilis genus, with plants reaching up to 1 m in height.
The four o'clock flower is native to tropical America and has been widely introduced and naturalized in temperate to tropical regions of the world. In China it is often cultivated as an ornamental flower in both the north and the south, and some people also plant it in courtyards.
The four o'clock flower prefers mild and humid climate conditions and is not cold-tolerant; its aboveground parts die back in winter, but in the Jiangnan region the underground parts can overwinter safely and become a perennial herbaceous flower, sending up new plants again in the following spring. For open-field cultivation it requires deep, loose, fertile loam soil, while for pot cultivation a general flower potting mix can be used.
2. How to plant four o'clock flower seeds?
1. Sowing time: it is suitable to sow in early spring, with the specific sowing time being mid-to-late April;
2. Temperature: the suitable germination temperature is 15-20°C;
3. Soil: choose fertile, loose planting soil with good air permeability;
4. Sowing: soak the seeds before sowing, then scatter them evenly over the soil and cover with a thin layer of moist soil;
5. Once the four o'clock flower seeds germinate and grow to a certain height, they can be transplanted.
Note that the flowerpot used for sowing four o'clock flowers should not be too deep; usually a shallow pot is used for sowing, but the bottom of the pot must have a drainage hole.
Then pour the soil selected in advance into the flowerpot, and at the same time level the soil poured into the pot to make sowing easier, then water thoroughly once before sowing.
After sowing the four o'clock flower seeds, if the potting soil becomes somewhat dry, you can replenish it with water once. But just after sowing, it is not advisable to replenish water by watering, otherwise the seeds are easily washed apart or washed out of the soil.
