How to grow lucky bamboo?

1. Water management

Water management is very important in the care of potted bamboo. Bamboo likes moisture and fears waterlogging. After potting, water thoroughly the first time, then keep the potting soil moist, “water thoroughly when dry”, and do not water too much, otherwise the rhizomes and roots are prone to rot. From potting to the stage of establishment, the leaves should also be sprayed with water frequently. If the potting soil lacks water, the bamboo leaves will curl; at this time, water promptly and the bamboo leaves will unfold again. In summer, water once every 1 to 2 days on average; in winter, water less, but ensure the potting soil stays moist to prevent “dry freezing”.

2. Fertilizer management

Fertilizer for potted bamboo is mainly organic fertilizer mixed into the potting soil at potting time. After the bamboo is established, apply additional fertilizer appropriately, using light fertilizer frequently; in spring and summer, a compound fertilizer can be applied with water.

3. Pest and disease control

The main insect pests of potted bamboo include bamboo aphids, bamboo scale insects, and so on, which can be sprayed with insecticide. The main diseases include sooty mold and witches’ broom, and so on; management should be strengthened and diseased plants pruned promptly.

4. Temperature and light management

In the hot midsummer season, potted bamboo should be moved to a cool place to avoid scorching sun exposure. Greenhouses should be covered with shade netting, and the leaves should also be sprayed with water frequently to keep the bamboo leaves emerald green. In the severe cold of winter, potted bamboo must be moved to a wind-sheltered, sunny place or indoors, and greenhouses should be covered with plastic film for insulation.

Lucky bamboo is generally suitable for placement in places such as a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and so on, and has effects such as neutralizing negative energy and purifying the air.
