How to Plant Rotala Rotundifolia? A Detailed Guide to Planting Methods
Rotala rotundifolia is an ornamental aquatic plant that is very easy to set up. Its planting difficulty is very low, pruning is easy, and it forms a beautiful landscape. It can be planted alone as a clump or mixed with others, and either way it has a unique charm. So, how do you plant Rotala rotundifolia?
1. Planting Method
Simply insert Rotala rotundifolia directly into the sand surface in the aquarium and it will grow. It is highly adaptable, and in soft water, hard water, strong light, weak light, heavy fertilizer, or light fertilizer environments, the forms it presents are all different, so it can be adjusted according to aquascaping needs.
2. Key Pruning Points
1. Rotala rotundifolia should be pruned as it grows; do not wait until it has grown too tall to start pruning, because the old stems below are then very easily shaded and drop their leaves, and after pruning it will look bare and unattractive. Generally, when it grows 7~9cm, prune 2cm~3cm, and this will keep the aquatic plant in good condition and can also quickly make it form density.
2. Prune according to aquascaping needs; this is a matter for experienced hobbyists. How long to leave it is related to growth speed, conditions in the tank, aquascaping arrangement, and so on. If it is only for planting purposes, or if you have no concept of aquascaping technique, you can prune according to conventional methods. For Rotala rotundifolia, generally keep at least 5~7cm, about 10~15 pairs of leaves, cut off 3 pairs of leaves from the lower end to help rooting, and insert to a depth where the third pair of leaf nodes from the bottom is just exposed above the sand surface. If the stem nodes are spaced closely, you can freely adjust the insertion depth as needed, and just ensure that the stem nodes below the sand surface have no leaves.
Rotala rotundifolia has characteristics such as creeping growth and rapid growth, so pruning is the most important part.
