How to Plant Jujube Seeds? A Detailed Guide to Jujube Tree Cultivation
Prepare high-quality seeds that are free of insect pests and plump. Soak the seeds in warm water overnight, then remove them and cover them with a damp cloth, rinsing them with warm water four times a day; once most of them have sprouted, they can be sown. The planting site should be plowed, given a base fertilizer, and trenched, with a trench spacing of 65cm and a trench depth of 10cm. After filling the trench with water, sow the seeds into the soil by dibbling, keeping a spacing of 20cm, and after sowing, fill the trench level. Carry out field management well in the later period, and by the spring of the third year they can be transplanted.
Propagation Methods of Jujube Trees
1. Cuttings
Generally, select robust branches as cuttings, cut them off, and let the cut ends dry. Then insert the branches into a prepared, already moistened sand bed, and carry out subsequent care while waiting for the branches to take root.
2. Grafting
Jujube tree grafting includes bark grafting, bud grafting, cleft grafting, side grafting, and so on. When grafting, first leave a cut on the rootstock where grafting can be done, then insert the branch prepared for grafting into the cut, and wrap the grafted cut tightly with plastic film so that it successfully grafts and sprouts in a warm and moist environment.
3. Root cuttings
In autumn, select a root segment from the jujube tree with a diameter of 3cm and a length of 25cm, and store it in sand in a cellar. When spring comes, after treating the root segment with rooting hormone, insert it obliquely into a prepared trench, exposing only 2cm above the ground, then water it and cover it with plastic film so that it takes root and sprouts.
4. Root pruning
Before the jujube tree develops its crown, dig a trench of about 35cm*50cm around the outer edge of the crown. Then cut off the roots of the jujube tree with a diameter of less than 2cm, apply organic fertilizer in the root-pruning trench and backfill it, and after it grows root-sucker seedlings, dig them out for treatment, then plant them.
5. Tissue culture
First select young shoot stem segments for in vitro rapid propagation, take them to the culture room and add culture medium for cultivation, and after the test-tube plantlets have been on the rooting medium for 20 days, place them in a solar greenhouse for 10 days of cultivation, open the bottle stopper and harden the seedlings for 3 days, then transplant the seedlings onto a sterilized seedbed, and tissue culture propagation can be successfully achieved.
The cultivation process of jujube trees is not short, and it takes patient nurturing to get the desired return.
