How to Grow Forget-Me-Nots? Detailed Planting Methods and Care Tips
Forget-me-not, also known as Chinese forget-me-not, is a perennial herbaceous plant that can be planted together with bulbous flowers to enhance the ornamental effect, and can also be grown in pots for viewing. So how do you grow it?
How to Grow Forget-Me-Nots?
1. Timing
The best sowing period for forget-me-nots is late September to October. Soaking the seeds in water before sowing will increase the germination rate. The germination temperature is about 15°C-20°C.
2. Method
Sow the seeds by broadcasting them in deep, loose, breathable, slightly alkaline sandy loam soil. Before sowing, it is best to apply decomposed organic fertilizer and slow-release compound fertilizer, then evenly turn them into the soil. After broadcasting, cover lightly with soil, maintain humidity, and make sure the temperature does not exceed 25°C.
3. Planting Out
After the sprouts emerge, ventilation is needed. Transplant the seedlings when they have more than 5 true leaves. After planting out, check 1-2 times a month, keeping the leaf color from fading and the leaf tips from turning red, to control the amount and frequency of fertilization. Water thoroughly before the plants are established; after they are established, control water appropriately to prevent leggy growth. During the bolting and flowering stage, pay attention to drainage so the plants grow firm and upright.
Forget-me-nots are prone to gray mold, powdery mildew, viral diseases and other diseases, so pesticides should be sprayed in advance for prevention and control.
