How to Plant King Grass Seeds? A Detailed Guide to the Planting Method
King grass (Pennisetum sinese) is a high-efficiency cash crop. It can both green and protect the soil, be used as fodder, and also be used to make paper. Its yield is also very high. So what is the better way to plant king grass seeds?
How to plant king grass seeds
1. King grass responds very quickly to fertility. When the soil is fertile enough, it can grow vigorously and green, with thick, sturdy plants. Before planting, choose the planting soil well; sandy soil with deep, loose and fertile layers is best. Prepare and plow the land, remove debris and weeds, and spread a sufficient amount of base fertilizer. You can broadcast 3.5-7.5 tons of cow dung and pig dung per mu. After fertilizing, plow once and harrow once.
2. In addition, to make king grass grow better later and to make field management easier, you can dig trenches and make beds. The land can be made into beds 1.4 m wide and 15-20 m long.
3. Before planting, soak the seeds in water for 1 day to increase the germination rate. Sowing methods include drilling, broadcasting and hole sowing. Sow 1.5-2 kg per mu, plant the seeds evenly into the soil at a depth of no more than 5 cm, then cover with soil by hand or by mechanical raking, and water thoroughly once promptly after covering.
4. Water daily to keep moisture. Seedlings begin to emerge 7-10 days after sowing. Weed and topdress in time. Once king grass has grown to 15-20 cm, it can be transplanted. There is some tillering at the seedling stage. To expand the field planting area, the tillered plants can be divided and transplanted separately.
King grass grows relatively fast and has high water and fertilizer needs, so do a good job of field management during care.
