China is one of the important places of origin for citrus. Citrus resources are abundant, with many fine varieties, and a cultivation history of more than 4000 years. So, where are the citrus production areas mainly distributed?

1. Citrus production areas

In China, citrus is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Fujian, Hunan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hubei, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Chongqing, Taiwan, China, Shanghai, Guizhou, Yunnan, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Henan, Hainan, Anhui and Gansu, among other provinces. Abroad, it is mainly produced in Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Spain, Iran, India, Italy and other countries.

2. Suitable environment for citrus growth

1. Oranges are suitable for growing as tropical and subtropical fruit trees. Planting is limited by temperature, especially low winter temperatures. Deep soil rich in organic matter, loose soil, good drainage, and slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soil are most suitable for planting. For growth, an annual rainfall of 1000-1500 mm, relative air humidity of 75%-80%, and relative soil moisture content of 60%-80% are appropriate.

2. Orange trees are more sensitive to temperature than to light. The optimum growth temperature is about 26°C, and growth is suitable within the range of 23-34°C. The temperature at which citrus stops growing is 12.8°C, the maximum temperature is about 38°C, and it can tolerate extreme low temperatures of about -9°C. The annual average temperature is 15-22°C.

Because citrus has relatively strict temperature requirements, colder regions are not suitable for planting it.
