The wood ear mushroom is a famous mountain delicacy with a delicious flavor. It can be eaten with meat or stir-fried as a vegetarian dish. Because it is rich in nutrients, it has the reputation of being the “meat among vegetables,” and around the world it is also called the “black treasure of Chinese cuisine.” So where are wood ear mushrooms distributed?

China is the main producer of wood ear mushrooms, and the producing regions are mainly distributed in Jilin, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, Shaanxi and other places. Among them, Hailin City in the Mudanjiang area of Heilongjiang Province and Huangsongdian Town in Jiaohe County, Jilin Province, are China's largest black wood ear mushroom bases.

Black wood ear mushrooms grow on broadleaf trees such as oak, elm, poplar, banyan and black locust, or on decaying wood and on the conifer fir, growing in dense clusters and capable of causing wood rot. Wood ear mushrooms grown on different trees have different names, and their effects also differ.
