How to Grow White Kidney Beans: Planting Methods and Key Technical Points
The biological name of the white kidney bean is runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus). It is grown in all provinces and regions of China, with the largest growing areas in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan. So how do you grow white kidney beans?
1. Land Preparation and Fertilization
Directly plow the land after harvesting the previous crop, which can reduce some pests and diseases. Form ridges and dig furrows, then evenly spread a layer of livestock manure or dry grass and wood on the ridges, and you can wait to sow.
2. Seed Germination and Sowing
First, put the seeds in the sun to bake for two or three days, then soak the seeds in a formalin solution for ten minutes, remove them and let them dry. Sow the seeds row by row on the prepared ridges, cover with soil, and water an appropriate amount.
3. Fertilizer Management
White kidney beans need fertilizer after being planted out, usually watered with human excrement and urine diluted with 50 jin of urea. When the white kidney bean vines are climbing, they need a large amount of nutrients; on average, 30 jin of urea, 20 jin of phosphate fertilizer, and 20 jin of potassium fertilizer are mixed and broadcast per mu.
4. Trellis Management
When the white kidney bean seedlings grow to about 30 cm, build some trellises or frames so they can climb along the ropes to grow. This yields much more than letting them crawl on the ground, and at the same time avoids the occurrence of many pests and diseases, so trellising is very necessary.
The white kidney bean is a famous and valuable edible bean commonly used in Western cuisine. Its grains are plump, uniform, and glossy. Used as a side dish, it is the icing on the cake, and it enjoys a great reputation at home and abroad.
