How to Plant Grape Vines? Detailed Planting Methods and Techniques
Many people like to eat grapes, especially those produced in Xinjiang, which come in many varieties and are of good quality, tasting sweet and tart. So, how do you grow grapes? Below we introduce how to plant grape vines.
1. Soil
Grape vines are suited to growing in soil that is loose, breathable and water-retentive, and high in fertility. You can use leaf mold, garden soil and coarse sand mixed in a 4:3:3 ratio to make the growing medium, or use garden soil, coarse sand and puffed chicken manure mixed in a 7:2:1 ratio. Once the growing medium is ready, you can plant the grape vines; they can be grown in pots or in the ground.
2. Light
Grape vines like to grow in sunlight. Giving grape vines plenty of sunlight can prompt them to grow better and produce delicious fruit. If they lack sunlight, the grape vines will grow poorly and the flavor of the fruit they produce will also be greatly reduced. However, in summer, you need to use a shade net to protect them from the sun so they do not get sunburned.
3. Water and Fertilizer
After planting, water grape vines once every 7-10 days. When there is heavy rain, pay attention to drainage. In the early stage of growth, water heavily; in the late stage of growth, water lightly. Do not water during the fruit coloring stage, and before harvest you must not water lightly or water in the morning. Each time you water, apply an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer, and spray foliar fertilizer once every half month.
4. Pruning
To increase the fruit-setting rate and berry quality, prune in time. Keep 5 fruiting canes per main vine, keep 1 cluster of fruit per fruiting cane, and promptly remove the excess. During full bloom, cut off the tips of the clusters, and 20 days after fruit set, cut away the small berries and overly dense berries.
