Blueberry is a perennial low shrub, but many people want to grow blueberries indoors, so can blueberries be grown indoors?

Blueberries can be grown indoors. You can grow blueberries as potted plants. When first starting out, you can choose a small pot, and repot once the blueberry plant has grown larger.

The specific methods for growing blueberries indoors are:

1. Choosing a pot

It is best to choose a clay pot. Clay pots have strong air permeability and are cheap; the drawback is that they are not very attractive. If you cannot buy a clay pot, you can choose a ceramic pot, followed by a purple clay pot or a plastic pot. Never use a glazed porcelain pot.

2. Mixing the soil

Blueberries can only grow healthily in an acidic medium. A pH value of 4~5 in the growing soil is most suitable for blueberry growth. This problem troubles many blueberry enthusiasts, because garden soil generally has a pH value between 6~7, and even the acidic soil sold in flower and bird markets has a pH value of at least 5.5~6.

3. Acclimating the seedlings

After the blueberry seedlings are planted in the pot, keep them indoors away from sunlight and place them in a ventilated spot for one week. This process is called acclimating the seedlings. After one week, they can be moved outside to the balcony for normal care.

4. Watering

Blueberries like moisture, especially in summer, when they need plenty of water every day. But be careful not to let water accumulate, otherwise the roots will rot. If it happens to rain, blueberries do not need to be brought indoors; no matter how heavy the rain, as long as the pot drains well there is no problem. During the growing season, after several consecutive days of cloudy and rainy weather, the blueberry leaves are emerald green and glossy, full of vitality, and new leaves also grow very quickly.

5. Light

Blueberries like sun. Even the sun at a temperature of 40°C in summer will not kill them. During the growing season they can tolerate high temperatures of 40~50°C in the surrounding environment, and they should be given plenty of water in the early morning. If they lack sufficient sunlight, blueberry growth stalls, and even if they bloom, they will not bear fruit.

6. Fertilizing

Blueberries do not have high fertilizer requirements; too much fertilizer will actually harm them. A certain amount of leaf mold in the medium can basically meet the growth needs of blueberries. Usually, an appropriate amount of topdressing is still needed to ensure the normal growth and quality of the fruit.
