Fujian loquats generally ripen from March to May. Because the varieties differ, the ripening time also varies. For example, Yunxiao loquats generally ripen in early March, while Putian loquats generally ripen from late April to early May.
2. Characteristics of Yunxiao Loquat
It is a specialty of Yunxiao County, Fujian Province, and a China National Geographical Indication Product. Yunxiao loquat cultivation has a long history, and its products have traditionally mainly been fresh fruit and medicinal dried leaves. Yunxiao loquat is known for being early-maturing, fragrant in flavor, bright in appearance, and covered with fuzz on the fruit surface. Yunxiao loquat has characteristics such as excellent flavor and quality, soft and juicy fruit, tender and melting flesh, easy peeling, moderate sweetness and acidity, rich flavor, and ample aroma. In 2007, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the implementation of geographical indication product protection for “Yunxiao Loquat”.
3. Characteristics of Putian Loquat
It is a China National Geographical Indication Product. Putian loquat has a long history of cultivation. Characteristics of Putian loquat: it is famous for large fruit, brilliant appearance, abundant flesh and sweet taste, early maturity, and tolerance for storage and transport. The main producing area, Changtai Town, is known as “China's No. 1 Loquat Township”. On December 10, 2008, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the implementation of geographical indication product protection for “Putian Loquat”.
Among Fujian loquats, the relatively famous ones are Yunxiao loquat and Putian loquat, and both have excellent flavor and quality. Friends who like eating loquats should not miss them.
