How to Grow Yuanbao Bamboo in Water? A Detailed Guide to Hydroponic Care
Yuanbao bamboo is a type of lucky bamboo with high ornamental value, and many people like to keep a few plants at home, so how do you grow Yuanbao bamboo in water?
1. Bottle insertion
For hydroponic Yuanbao bamboo, it is best to choose a translucent glass bottle rather than some opaque porcelain bottles. This way, first, it is convenient for us to observe the conditions inside the bottle, and second, it will not reduce its ornamental value. When first inserting it, pay attention to trimming the roots. On the first insertion, remove the leaves at the base so as not to affect the bamboo's growth. The specific amount depends on the size of your vase; just remove the leaves below the mouth of the bottle. In addition, use scissors or a knife to cut off a small part of the root at an angle, which can better allow the bamboo to absorb water. Make the cut as smooth as possible.
2. Temperature
Yuanbao bamboo is suitable for growing between 16°C and 26°C, and cold easily causes the plant to die. In winter, do not place it in colder places such as balconies or beside windows, and never let the water freeze. Anti-freeze measures can be taken when necessary.
3. Light
Ensure sufficient light for hydroponic Yuanbao bamboo. Water-grown lucky bamboo is generally placed indoors. Although its sunlight requirements are not high, if it cannot receive any sunlight at all, the leaves will also turn yellow and grow poorly. Therefore, place it in a bright and ventilated environment as much as possible so it can fully receive light.
4. Water
There are two choices for the water used in hydroponic Yuanbao bamboo: one is purified water, and the other is tap water that has been left standing. Purified water is pure water without any added substances, and using it to grow bamboo can ensure that the bamboo will not be attacked by pathogenic bacteria in the water. However, using this kind of water for growing has a certain cost.
Tap water needs to be prepared one day in advance and can only be used after being left standing for one day. This is because water plants use some disinfectant gases when supplying tap water, and these gases are slightly soluble in water. After the tap water has been left standing for one day, it can basically be ensured that these gases have volatilized and will not bring harm to the bamboo roots.
5. Fertilizer
When growing Yuanbao bamboo, fertilize once a month. For hydroponically grown plants, we generally ignore fertilizing, but this is actually not the case. Fertilizing can make the plant grow better. Water-grown lucky bamboo only needs to be fertilized once a month. You can go to a flower market to choose professional fertilizer, or add a few drops of dissolved vitamin C1 when adding water.
