How to Propagate Peace Lily by Leaf Cuttings? Detailed Method and Steps
Peace lily, also known as white sail, is a common indoor flowering plant that not only purifies the air but can also be used as a cut flower. So what is the leaf cutting propagation method for peace lily?
1. What is the leaf cutting propagation method for peace lily?
Select a few healthy peace lily plants, cut off the thick stem node sections from the plant, soak them in a rooting powder solution for 1-2 hours, then remove and air-dry. After air-drying, insert them directly into garden soil. Later, manage water and fertilizer well, keep the temperature at around 28 degrees, and they will sprout in about a month.
2. What are the propagation methods for peace lily?
1. Division propagation
Division is one of the common propagation methods for peace lily, mainly carried out in May to June in spring. First, take the entire plant out of the pot, cut apart the mother plant and rhizome, wash the mother plant portion clean with water, let it air-dry in a semi-shaded place for a period of time, then plant it in moist sandy soil.
2. Seed propagation
Generally, after the peace lily blooms, seeds can be harvested. After harvesting, soak the seeds in warm water for about 5 hours. The suitable temperature for germination is controlled at around 30°C. After sowing, cover with a layer of plastic film to retain moisture. If the temperature is too low, move it to a greenhouse for cultivation. It will sprout in about half a month after sowing.
3. Tissue culture
When using tissue culture for peace lily, explants such as stem tips, leaves or inflorescences can be soaked in alcohol for about 30 seconds first, then soaked in a dilute solution of benzylaminopurine and indoleacetic acid for germination induction treatment. After about 1 month, adventitious buds grow, and they can be moved to an indoleacetic acid medium to induce rooting.
