Introduction to the Chenxiang Grape Variety

Chenxiang belongs to the early-maturing Eurasian group and is a new variety bred by the Dalian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Shanghai Aode Farm by crossing White Muscat and White Rosa. The clusters are relatively large and conical, with an average cluster weight of 650 g and a maximum of up to 1200 g. The berries are oval, with an average berry weight of 10 g; the skin is yellow-green, thin, and without astringency; the flesh is delicate and juicy, with moderate firmness, a rose aroma, and a high sugar-to-acid ratio; natural fruit set is moderate, the berries are uniform, they do not shatter, they hold well on the vine, they do not lose sugar, and the quality is excellent.

1. Advantages:

Maturity period: 90 days from bud break to maturity; aromatic substances: rose aroma, with flavor better than Zaoxia Rose;

Flesh firmness: crisp, with abundant juice;

Sugar content: high, generally above 18%;

Berry brush tensile resistance: relatively large, relatively tolerant of transport;

Flower bud differentiation: extremely good, suitable for short-spur pruning;

Holding ability on the vine: can remain on the tree for 2 months after maturity;

Berry size: average berry weight 10 g, maximum more than 12 g;

Second crop: performs extremely well.

2. Defects:

Forced early cultivation easily leads to uneven berry size, and rainy weather during flowering easily leads to uneven berry size; leaf yellowing is severe. Whether the vines are young or mature, Chenxiang shows very severe leaf yellowing. Even when alleviated by supplementing trace elements, it is difficult to solve fundamentally. Before Chenxiang ripens, the lower leaves will automatically fall off.

3. Positioning of Chenxiang:

Suitable cultivation conditions and regions: open-field cultivation in Henan and areas to the north;

Market positioning: can be used as a main early-maturing variety in the north, replacing extremely early-maturing varieties such as Bixiang Seedless and Hongqi Tezao Rose. Managing Chenxiang with the attitude used for producing high-end Shine Muscat can achieve extremely excellent quality.

Well-managed Chenxiang has high quality and belongs to the high-end category, but the characteristics of this variety have not yet been fully understood, so it is temporarily not recommended for planting in southern regions.
