What pesticide gives good results for controlling corn borers
During the growth period, corn is affected by various pests, and the corn borer is the most common one, so what pesticide should be sprayed for corn borers?
1. What pesticide should be sprayed for corn borers?
For corn borers, pesticides such as phoxim, methamidophos, chlorpyrifos, dichlorvos, and trichlorfon can be sprayed for control. Generally, at the whorl stage, methamidophos and cypermethrin can be mixed at a ratio of 7:1, diluted 1000 times, and poured into the whorl for control. At the ear stage, 50% dichlorvos 500 times solution or 90% trichlorfon 800 times solution can be sprayed on the silks and ears for control.
2. What damage do corn borers cause?
The corn borer, commonly known as the arrow-stem worm, is a pest that occurs fairly commonly on corn and causes relatively serious damage. It can harm the aboveground parts of the corn plant at all growth stages, feeding on leaves, ears, and tassels, and boring into stems, causing damage to plant growth, reducing the transport of nutrients, minerals, and water to the ears, and leading to a yield reduction of 10-30%, posing a great threat to corn production. Young larvae bore into the whorl to cause damage, and after the leaves unfold they leave many small holes in horizontal rows; older larvae bite the silks, stems, and base of the tassels, and can also bore into the cob and move in and out at any time to bite and feed on corn kernels. The corn borer overwinters as larvae of the 4th instar or older in the stems, cobs, and root crowns of host plants.
