In the 2012-2014 Shandong Province irrigated-land group regional trials, Jimai 229 had a two-year average yield of 592.14 kg per mu, 0.84% lower than the control Jimai 22; in the 2014-2015 Shandong Province irrigated-land group production trial, the average yield was 560.43 kg per mu, 0.94% higher than the control. The average values from uniform sampling in the 2013 and 2014 regional trials, tested by the Grain Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture (Tai'an), were: grain protein content 15.1%, wet gluten 31.9%, sedimentation value 42.4ml, water absorption 57.2ml/100g, stability time 19.5min, flour whiteness 72.7, with the main quality indicators reaching the standard for strong-gluten special-purpose flour. It is suitable for planting and utilization in medium- to high-fertility irrigated plots throughout the province.

In the 2012-2014 Shandong Province dryland regional trials, Jimai 262 had a two-year average yield of 454.35 kg per mu, 6.44% higher than the control Lumai 21; in the 2014-2015 dryland group production trial, the average yield was 492.97 kg per mu, 4.92% higher than the control variety Lumai 21. The average values from uniform sampling in the two-year regional trials, tested by the Grain Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture (Tai'an), were: grain protein content 15.0%, wet gluten 35.2%, sedimentation value 28.9ml, water absorption 54.9ml/100g, stability time 2.3min, flour whiteness 80.2. It is suitable for planting and utilization in dryland fertile plots throughout the province.

In recent years, the wheat breeding team of the Crop Research Institute has closely followed the national food security strategy under the new situation, and in response to the demand for strong-gluten varieties and drought-resistant varieties in wheat production, adjusted breeding goals and approaches. The developed Jimai 229 has multiple quality indicators superior to Jinan 17, matures 2-3 days earlier than Jimai 22, and is another high-quality strong-gluten wheat variety after Jinan 17 and Jimai 20; Jimai 262, in the 2012-2013 Shandong Province dryland regional trials, had an average yield of 462.62 kg per mu, 9.74% higher than the control Lumai 21, making it the dryland wheat variety with the largest yield increase in more than a decade and a new breakthrough in dryland wheat breeding.
