Sea asparagus, also known as sea purslane and also known as shidiaobai, is called longxucai by people in the north, and tastes crisp and tender with a slight saltiness and a unique texture. Many people love eating sea asparagus. So how should sea asparagus be planted?

1. Sowing

When sowing sea asparagus, roughly 2 methods are used. One is to first make small furrows on land that has already been finely prepared, with the furrows about 4 cm deep, then scatter the seeds into the furrows, and they should be spread fairly evenly. After the seeds are sown, cover them with about 2 cm of thin soil, then water an appropriate amount over the furrows, and finally cover the ground with plastic film, or cover it with rotted grass fertilizer or rice straw, either is fine. This can make the seedlings emerge a bit faster. The other method is relatively simpler: first water the field once, making sure every part of the field is irrigated, then scatter the seeds of longxucai into the field, and they must be sown evenly, then cover with a layer of fine soil, and after that cover with a layer of rotted grass.

2. Fertilizing

Sea asparagus is the tender tip at the very top of the plant, so when growing this vegetable, the plant must be made to grow many branches, because only then will sea asparagus have a high yield. During the growth of sea asparagus, the fertilizer required is plentiful, so fertilizer must be applied continuously. Basically, right after harvesting, a topdressing of fertilizer should be applied at once. This can make sea asparagus grow a bit faster, and only then will the time until the next harvest be shortened. When applying fertilizer, biogas slurry is generally used, or something leaning toward urea, because only then will the seedlings grow a bit faster. At the same time, the vines must also be pinched back multiple times, because only then will more side branches grow, and only then will the yield of sea asparagus increase.

3. Pest and Disease Control

Throughout the entire growth stage of sea asparagus, there is basically no occurrence of disease, but insect pests appear occasionally, such as leaf rollers, moths, cabbage worms, aphids, and so on. These pests mainly eat the stems and leaves of sea asparagus, which causes the yield of sea asparagus to decline and the quality to be poor. If severe, it will cause the plants to die. So in ordinary times, once insect pests are found, they must be caught immediately, or the corresponding agents must be sprayed for control. Generally, trichlorfon is used, or chlorothalonil solvent, Bordeaux mixture, and other agents. But note that starting 15 days before harvest, the agents should no longer be sprayed.

4. Harvesting

Harvesting sea asparagus is relatively simple: when sea asparagus has grown to a certain extent, basically when it has grown to 31 cm, it can be harvested. Basically, about every 5 days, one harvest can be carried out.

The planting method of sea asparagus is still relatively simple, and its crisp, tender, slightly salty taste has won it many admirers.
