Which herbicide is effective for controlling rice flat-sedge?
Rice flat-sedge is a relatively difficult weed to remove in paddy fields, so herbicides are needed. So which herbicide should be used for rice flat-sedge?
1. Which herbicide should be used for rice flat-sedge?
Rice flat-sedge can be removed with propanil herbicide plus cyhalofop-butyl. Both propanil herbicide and cyhalofop-butyl are selective herbicides that can remove weeds in the field, but they are not harmful to the rice itself. For specific dosages, refer to the instructions.
2. Introduction to the herbicides
1. Propanil herbicide
It is a highly selective contact herbicide of the amide class, mainly used in seedling fields or direct-seeded fields. It is a specific herbicide for controlling barnyardgrass, and can also be used to control many other grasses and dicotyledonous weeds, such as Monochoria vaginalis, water dropwort, crabgrass, and foxtail.
It is best to apply the herbicide on a sunny day, but the temperature should not exceed 30°C. The water layer should not submerge the rice seedlings.
It cannot be mixed with organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides, and organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides cannot be used within two weeks before or two weeks after applying propanil, to avoid herbicide damage.
2. Cyhalofop-butyl
Cyhalofop-butyl is the only variety among aryloxyphenoxypropionate herbicides that is highly safe for rice. Like other varieties in this class, it is a systemic conductive herbicide. It is absorbed by the leaves and leaf sheaths of the plant, conducted through the phloem, and accumulates in the meristematic tissue regions of the plant, inhibiting acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), stopping fatty acid synthesis, preventing normal cell growth and division, destroying membrane systems and other lipid-containing structures, and ultimately causing plant death.
It is mainly used to control important grass weeds. Cyhalofop-butyl is highly effective against Chinese sprangletop, has a certain control effect on young barnyardgrass, and can also control crabgrass, jointed paspalum, foxtail, goosegrass, and shortawn foxtail. It is ineffective against Cyperaceae weeds and broadleaf weeds.
