Vegetables are a food we eat often. Anyone with experience growing vegetables knows that aphids are the most common pest. So, what methods are there to control aphids on vegetables? What pesticide should be sprayed once aphids appear?

1. What methods are there to control aphids on vegetables?

1. Agricultural control

In the cropping system, implement crop rotation as much as possible and avoid continuous cropping. After the previous crop of vegetables is harvested, plow and sun the ridges in time and clear away debris in the field to reduce aphid sources. Aphids prefer to feed on carbohydrates, so during vegetable cultivation, apply more decomposed farmyard manure and use chemical fertilizers as little as possible, especially avoiding applying too much fertilizer at one time, so that vegetable leaves do not become too dark green and leggy. If carbohydrates in the plant increase sharply, aphids will break out into a disaster in a short time.

2. Repelling aphids with silver-gray film

Aphids have a strong avoidance response to silver-gray, so silver-gray plastic strips can be hung in the field or silver-gray plastic film can be used to cover vegetables.

3. Killing aphids with urea-detergent mixture

Make a urea-detergent mixture with urea, laundry detergent, and clean water in a ratio of 4:1:400, and spray it evenly and carefully on both the front and back of the leaves, using 60 kg of spray liquid per mu, spraying 2 to 3 times in succession. Spraying the urea-detergent mixture not only has a good control effect on vegetable aphids, but also has the effect of foliar fertilization to promote growth. However, the urea-detergent mixture must be prepared and used immediately to prevent urea from volatilizing and losing effectiveness.

4. Killing aphids with plants

(1) Grind tobacco into fine powder, add a small amount of lime powder, and spread it; (2) soak chili peppers or wild mugwort in water for a day and night, filter, and spray; (3) crush castor bean leaves and spread them, or soak them in water at 1:2, boil for 10 minutes, filter, and spray; (4) soak peach leaves in water for a day and night, add a small amount of quicklime, filter, and spray.

5. Repelling aphids with plants

For example, the volatile odor of Chinese chives has a repellent effect on aphids, so planting Chinese chives together with other vegetables can reduce aphid density and lessen the degree of aphid damage to vegetables.

6. Killing aphids with pig bile liquid

Add an appropriate amount of baking soda or laundry detergent to 10% pig bile liquid, and spray it directly on vegetable plants harmed by aphids and cabbage caterpillars to effectively kill the pests. The diluted liquid can remain effective for 10 to 12 days.

7. Killing aphids with lime powder

Spread lime powder on vegetable leaves with aphids, and the aphids will soon be killed.

2. What pesticide should be sprayed once aphids appear on vegetables?

You can choose 20% imidacloprid emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times dilution, 20% carbosulfan emulsifiable concentrate at 1000-1500 times dilution, or 3% acetamiprid emulsifiable concentrate at 1500-2000 times dilution, and carry out foliar spraying 2 times in succession, once every 5-7 days. Pesticides should be used alternately to reduce the development of pest resistance.

For aphids on vegetables, in general, pollution-free control methods should be the main approach. If they cannot be controlled, low-toxicity pesticides should be chosen for eradication.
