What are the treatment methods for peach tree scab?
Peach tree scab, also called black spot and black mole disease, is a common disease of this fruit tree. After infection, black spots appear on the fruit and cracking occurs. What are the treatment methods for peach tree scab?
1. Treatment methods for peach tree scab
If scab symptoms appear, spray with Liangguoan at 90-150 times + garlic oil at 1000-1500 times, spraying 3 times in a row with an interval of 2-3 days each time, and be sure to spray the undersides of the leaves as well. In severe cases, the corresponding chemical agents can be added to the mix.
Because Liangguoan is made from a chelated compound of multiple traditional Chinese medicines, it is highly safe and does not cause resistance; cumulative use throughout the year gives better results. When disease occurs, it can be used at high concentration, continuously, with shortened intervals, and in combination with other products. Use strong medicine when disease strikes to bring the disease under control at once.
2. Peach tree disease prevention and control measures
1. Peach leaf curl. It mainly damages leaves, young shoots and young fruit.
Control measures: (1) In spring, when the peach buds are swollen but have not yet burst, spray with 5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture or 1:1:100 Bordeaux mixture;
(2) After diseased leaves are found, remove and burn them promptly before the ascus layer forms.
2. Peach scab. It mainly damages fruit, and can also damage shoots and leaves. When the fruit is first infected, small dark green round spots appear on the fruit surface, which then gradually enlarge.
Control measures: (1) Before sprouting, spray with 5° Baume lime sulfur mixture to eliminate or reduce overwintering inoculum on the shoots; from half a month after petal fall to June, spray with 0.2-0.4° Baume lime sulfur mixture, or 0.5:1:100 zinc sulfate lime solution, every half month;
(2) In winter, in combination with pruning, remove diseased branches, or eliminate and reduce the overwintering sources of disease.
3. Peach anthracnose. Symptoms: infected young fruit turns dark brown, its development stalls, and it shrivels and hardens. When slightly larger fruit is infected, dark green water-soaked spots first appear on the fruit surface, then expand and become sunken and dark brown.
Control measures: (1) In winter, in combination with pruning, remove diseased branches and diseased fruit to reduce the sources of disease;
(2) Before germination, spray with 5° Baume lime sulfur mixture; from the time the fruit is the size of a bean, spray with an organic sulfur formulation at 600 times, or 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 1000 times;
(3) Pay attention to orchard drainage, and apply fertilizer appropriately to prevent excessive vegetative growth.
4. Peach tree rot. It mainly damages the trunk and large branches, causing tree death. In severe cases, gum flows all over the body, the bark tissue rots, is moist and smells of distillers' grains, then shrinks and dries, with dense small black spots on it.
Control measures: (1) Build up tree vigor, and strengthen fertilizer and water management;
(2) Promptly scrape off the diseased lesions down to the xylem, and after scraping, apply 40% asomate or 50% thiram, either is acceptable;
(3) Promptly burn the diseased and dead branches sawed off each year; they must not be piled up near the orchard.
Different symptoms require corresponding measures; comprehensive control measures are mainly adopted to suppress and eliminate the sources of disease so that they have no chance to infect the plants.
