Pear rust, also known as red star disease, severely affects the development and growth of pear trees, and is also one of the common diseases of pear trees. So if a pear tree develops rust, what fungicide should be used?

What fungicide for pear rust?

In the early stage of pear rust, spray 20% triadimefon EC at 1000 times dilution plus Gaoke 20% flusilazole and prochloraz at 800 times dilution; once the disease has already appeared, spray 20% triadimefon at 600 times dilution, 12.5% diniconazole at 3000 times dilution, or 10% flusilazole at 1200-1500 times dilution for control. Note that no spraying should be done during the flowering period to avoid phytotoxicity.

What is the pattern of pear rust occurrence?

1. Variety factor

Different varieties of pear trees differ greatly in their resistance to pear rust.

2. Leaf age

Once leaves have grown for more than 3 weeks, the pathogen cannot infect them.

3. Alternate host

Without an alternate host, the pathogen cannot complete its life cycle, and the disease cannot occur. The alternate host is widely cultivated and large in number, creating conditions for the occurrence of pear rust.

4. Climate

If there are many rainfall events and large rainfall amounts from early April to early-to-mid May, the disease tends to become epidemic. The pathogen overwinters as perennial mycelium forming galls on the branches and leaves of Chinese juniper, and in the following spring forms basidiospores, which spread to pear trees by wind and rain, and after germination directly penetrate from epidermal cells or through stomata to cause infection.
