Mineral oil pesticide is a common insecticide, fungicide and synergist in daily life. It is generally used when killing insects or fungi on crops, but because of its powerful function, precautions must be taken when using it, as a moment of carelessness can cause phytotoxicity. So what are the precautions for mineral oil pesticides?

1. What are the precautions for using mineral oil pesticides?

When using mineral oil pesticides, they must not be mixed with pesticides that easily cause phytotoxicity, such as chlorothalonil, captan, carbaryl, organotin and sulfur. At the same time, in hot weather it should be sprayed before noon or after dusk, and in winter it should be sprayed in the afternoon.

2. What types of mineral oil pesticides are there?

According to differences in their source, physicochemical properties and other factors, mineral oil pesticides are divided into agricultural spray oil grade and machine oil emulsifiable concentrate grade.

1. Agricultural spray oil

Non-recycled paraffinic base oil or hydrogenated oil (with reduced aromatic hydrocarbon content) is used as the base oil. The base oil should meet the FDA21CFR178.3620 standard (the US Food and Drug Administration standard for mineral white oil that may be used for machinery lubricating food or drugs or may be used in direct contact with food).

The mass fraction of non-sulfonated substances is not less than 92%, the color is transparent, and the color value is below 0.5. The mass fraction of paraffins (paraffinic base) is not less than 65%, and the product carbon number distribution is between C21 and C24. Saybolt viscosity is 55 to 75s, density 0.85, pour point -7°C, with good emulsification characteristics.

Spray oil has the characteristics of low toxicity, being environmentally friendly and low residue. It can be used as an insecticide (acaricide), fungicide, adjuvant, etc., and is used during the crop growing period and dormant period.

2. Machine oil emulsifiable concentrate

Non-recycled original base oil is used, and it should meet the FDA21CFR178.360 standard.

The product carbon number distribution is between C17 and C30, and the color value is below 5.5.

Because machine oil emulsifiable concentrate may contain substances that cause crop phytotoxicity and lead to residues in agricultural products, in application it is only used as an insecticide (acaricide) for clearing orchards during the winter dormant period.
