How to manage peanut seedlings? These management points need to be mastered
Generally, after peanut seeds are sown, seedlings will emerge in about half a month, and if the seedlings are managed properly, a high yield is not far off. So what are the key points of peanut seedling stage management?
1. Timely thinning and replanting of seedlings
After sowing, 10 to 15 days later, check the growth conditions of the whole field and timely thin and replant seedlings. Generally, where there is a gap in the seedlings, transplant from where the growth is too dense. Or timely carry out pre-sprouting and replanting. When transplanting, it is advisable to water at the planting point or transplant with soil. Replanting should be done early to prevent the appearance of small old seedlings and affect density. If the temperature is high during the seedling stage, timely lift the seedlings (mainly refers to plastic-film peanuts), otherwise it is very easy to cause seedling scorching, thereby affecting the normal growth of peanuts. Thinning and replanting are generally carried out before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. It needs to be done 2 to 3 times before the first flowering.
2. Timely intertillage and weeding
After peanut seedlings emerge, check the conditions in the furrows. If weeds are found, timely use herbicide to seal the ground. After the peanut seedlings are fully established, try not to spray, so as not to damage the tender peanut leaves and affect growth.
3. Moderate intertillage
After peanut seedlings emerge, intertillage should be done three or four times, namely the first scraping (shallow hoeing), the second digging (deep hoeing), the third and fourth hoeing, among which shallow hoeing should not exceed 1 cm, and deep hoeing should not exceed about 2 cm.
4. Prevent leaf spot disease in advance
From the production practice of peanuts, after the peanut seedlings are fully established, peanut leaf spot disease has already occurred, especially for peanuts sown early. Due to the long seedling emergence time, plus obviously low air and ground temperatures, root growth is hindered, nutrient uptake is insufficient, and plant growth is slow, making them highly susceptible to pathogen invasion, so prevention and control must be carried out early. After the peanut seedlings are fully established, use pure carbendazim at 800 times or thiophanate-methyl at 800 times, spraying once every 7 days, at least 2 times. At the same time, imidacloprid and nutrient agents can be added to achieve the effect of disease prevention, pest control, and nutrition in one spray with three preventions.
5. Timely and appropriate topdressing
Topdressing at the seedling stage should be carried out before the first flowering to promote seedling growth and flower bud differentiation. The amount depends on the seedling condition. If the leaves are narrow and pale, it is advisable to apply fertilizer once at 4 to 5 true leaves, using 4 kg of urea per mu, or 20 loads of diluted manure and urine; if the leaves are broad and the leaf color is darker, then it may not be applied or applied sparingly as appropriate, with emphasis on supplementing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to prevent excessively vigorous growth and premature row closure.
