Do cherries need to be sprayed with pesticides during cultivation?
Cherries have always been a fruit that people like. They are plump, sweet, highly nutritious, and in relatively high market demand. Many people do not understand how cherries are cultivated and want to know do cherries need to be sprayed with pesticides?
1. Do cherries need to be sprayed with pesticides
Cherries only need to be sprayed with pesticides when pests or diseases occur. If brown spot disease or leaf spot disease occurs, spray 1-2 times with a 600-fold dilution of 70% mancozeb from after flower drop to before fruit harvest. If gummosis occurs, first treat the wound, then mix quicklime, lime sulfur mixture, salt, and vegetable oil with water to make a protective agent and apply it. If red-necked longhorn beetles, mulberry white scale insects, etc. occur, spray once with a 500-600 fold dilution of 70% mancozeb for control.
2. Timing of pesticide spraying for cherries
The timing of pesticide spraying is judged according to the growth condition of the cherries. Before budding, spray lime sulfur mixture to prevent various pathogens and pests. During the growing period, the times are mid-to-late June, July-August, and before and after film covering in protected cultivation. During these periods, targeted spraying is needed to prevent and control various pests and diseases.
3. How to spray cherries with pesticides
1. Before budding, spray the whole tree with 5 degrees Baumé lime sulfur mixture.
2. In June, when the growing period begins, use thiophanate-methyl, 50% carbendazim, and mancozeb for disease prevention treatment, etc.
3. In late June and late July, spray Bordeaux mixture once on the cherry leaves, for a total of 2-3 sprays throughout the year. For pests, mainly prevent red spiders and white spiders. Also pay attention to green plant bugs, small leafrollers, leaf miners, and slug moths, etc. It can also concurrently control leaf-eating pests such as slug moths on Yantai large cherries.
4. Before and after film covering in protected cultivation, spray once with 3-5 degrees Baumé lime sulfur mixture. After fruit harvest, spray 1-2 times with a 500-fold dilution of 70% mancozeb or a 700-fold dilution of 50% carbendazim.
5. In July-August, spray 2-3 times with 200-fold Bordeaux mixture with an equal amount of lime. For caterpillars and slug moths, spray pyrethroid insecticides during the larval stage for control.
Pesticide spraying for cherries should not be done blindly. It should be judged according to the conditions of your own planting area. Some places require less pesticide spraying, while others require more.
