When is the best time to spray insecticide on corn
Pests can severely affect the growth of corn, and corn insecticides can efficiently and safely control various pests. So when should you spray insecticide on corn?
1. Sowing period
Mainly to control underground pests and seed-borne diseases.
1. Practice crop rotation and avoid continuous cropping. Clean the field to reduce the source of initial infection. Choose varieties with strong stress resistance.
2. Use seed coating, or apply 200-250 g of 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate per mu mixed with 25-30 kg of fine soil and band-apply it along the rows, or use 4 kg of 3% phoxim granules mixed with fine sand and band-apply to control underground pests.
3. Mix 1 kg of 50% triadimefon powder with 5 kg of water to treat 60 kg of seed, or treat seed with 25% triadimefon at a 0.3% dosage to control smut and take-all disease.
2. Seedling stage
Mainly to control corn aphids, stem-boring noctuid moths, whorl maggots, and zinc deficiency.
1. During thinning and final singling, pull up weeds in the field, and promptly burn weeds and diseased plants in a centralized manner to reduce pest sources. Strengthen water and fertilizer management to promote early seedling growth.
2. Spray with 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate or 40% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 2000-3000 times dilution to control corn aphids and also small brown planthoppers.
3. In plots where stem-boring noctuid moths or whorl maggots occur locally, drench the roots with 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 500 times dilution, or 90% trichlorfon at 300 times dilution, or 50% dichlorvos at 400 times dilution. 2.2.4 Per mu, spray 25-30 kg of 0.2%-0.3% zinc sulfate solution on the leaves at the ?-5 leaf stage to control zinc deficiency and enhance the plant's disease resistance.
3. Whorl stage and ear stage
Mainly to control corn borers, armyworms, banded leaf and sheath blight, and leaf spots, while also controlling striped stem borers, corn aphids, and thrips.
1. Strengthen field management, cultivate and weed in time, fertilize reasonably, and increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to improve the plant's stress resistance.
2. At the large trumpet stage, use Shamingling No. 1 granules, or 1% 1605 granules, or 0.3% phoxim granules to control corn borers.
3. Spray with 90% trichlorfon at 1000 times dilution, or 50% dichlorvos at 2000 times dilution, or 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate at 1000-2000 times dilution, or 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times dilution to control armyworms.
4. Spray with 70% thiophanate-methyl or 50% carbendazim wettable powder at 500-800 times dilution to control banded leaf and sheath blight and leaf spots; you can also use 70% mancozeb wettable powder at 400-500 times dilution to spray the diseased parts or coat the stems to control banded leaf and sheath blight.
4. Grain-filling and maturity stage
Mainly to prevent bacterial wilt, take-all disease, and premature senescence. This is mainly prevented through agricultural cultivation measures such as selecting varieties with strong stress resistance, ensuring the nutritional area per plant, strengthening field management, and improving ventilation and light conditions in the corn population.
At different stages, corn requires control of different pests and diseases, so the insecticides sprayed are also different and should be selected according to actual conditions.
