When Is the Best Time to Plant Line Peppers? A Detailed Guide to Planting Time
The line pepper is a variety of chili pepper, often used to make dried chilies, and it is grown on a large scale in Shaanxi and other regions, so how long is the line pepper planting time?
I. Basic Introduction to the Line Pepper
The line pepper is an important type of dried chili in China, and it is grown on a large scale in Shaanxi and some central and western provinces and autonomous regions.
If you want to grow line peppers, you need to choose excellent varieties with strong disease resistance and high quality and yield; mainly choose high-quality local line chili varieties, such as: Super Tiaojiao Wang, Lafeng No. 1, Lafeng No. 3, Longgu, Longxin, Longtan, Longhuan, etc.
Before sowing, the seeds also need to be sun-dried and soaked for disinfection.
Sun-drying the seeds: before seed treatment, spread the seeds flat in a clean place to dry for 1—2 days and sort them.
Seed soaking and disinfection: put the seeds in a clean sand bag and soak them in cold water for 2 hours, then put them in 50-55°C warm water for 15 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid scalding the seeds. Then soak them in clean water for 8 hours, remove them and put them in a 1000-fold potassium permanganate solution for 30 minutes, then remove them, rinse them clean with clean water, and they are ready.
II. Line Pepper Planting Time
Line peppers are generally sown from late February to early March each year, but because the climate conditions vary from region to region, the planting time is not exactly the same, and the actual local planting time shall prevail.
III. Pest and Disease Control for Line Peppers
During the growing period of line peppers, pests and diseases need to be controlled so that the line peppers can grow normally:
1. Damping-off and Rhizoctonia solani blight: these easily occur during the seed emergence period. When 80% of the seedlings have emerged, use 70% thiophanate-methyl at 1000 times or 75% chlorothalonil at 600 times for control, once every 7 days; spray 2—3 times.
2. Pest control: after the seedlings are transplanted, use phoxim at 1000 times as a root drench, using 1 jin of pesticide per mu to control cutworms; use imidacloprid at 2000 times or Biyaling to control aphids; use Abamectin or Lueweichongman for control.
3. Gray mold and Phytophthora blight: these easily occur during the seedling-raising period or after transplanting when there is a lot of rain. In the early stage of the disease, use 50% procymidone at 1000—1500 times or 58% metalaxyl mancozeb at 800 times for control.
