Bifenthrin is an insecticide with moderate toxicity to humans and livestock and relatively high toxicity to fish, so what are the efficacy and functions of bifenthrin? And how is bifenthrin prepared?

1. Basic introduction to bifenthrin

The pure product of bifenthrin is a white solid, soluble in acetone, chloroform, dichloromethane, ether, toluene, and heptane, with a solubility in water of 0.1mg/l.

Bifenthrin is stable to light, relatively stable in acidic media, and still relatively stable after storage at room temperature for one year, but it decomposes in alkaline media.

In addition to being moderately toxic to humans and livestock and highly toxic to fish, it is also acutely toxic to rats and rabbits, but it has no irritating effect on the skin and eyes, and has no teratogenic, carcinogenic, or mutagenic effects.

2. Efficacy and functions of bifenthrin

Bifenthrin is a synthetic insecticide and acaricide, and its main efficacy is insect control and mite control. It can be used to control pests such as cotton red spider mite, cabbage caterpillar, cotton bollworm, hawthorn spider mite, and tea geometrid.

3. Preparation methods of bifenthrin

1. Put lambda-cyhalothric acid into an acid chloride chlorination kettle, and drip in thionyl chloride to carry out an acid chloride chlorination reaction to produce lambda-cyhalothric acid chloride; then add o-methylbiphenyl methanol, toluene, NaOH solution, water, etc. into a condensation reaction kettle, drip in lambda-cyhalothric acid chloride, wash with water after the reaction is complete, and finally obtain the finished product after distillation desolvation, refining and purification, and drying.

2. It is produced from 3,3-dimethyl-1-pentenoic acid 2-methyl-3-phenylbenzyl bromide through condensation, cyclization, and dehydrochlorination.

3. 2-Phenylbenzoic acid is reacted with SOCl2 to produce 2-phenylbenzoyl chloride, which is then reacted with dimethylformamide to produce the corresponding 2-phenylbenzamide, and then reduced with lithium aluminum hydride to produce 2-phenyldimethylbenzylamine. 2-Phenyldimethylbenzylamine is reacted with CH3I to produce the corresponding ammonium salt, which after isomerization is reacted with ethyl chloroformate to produce 2-methyl-3-phenylbenzyl chloride. Finally, it is reacted with the corresponding acid in the presence of KOH in acetonitrile under reflux for 16h to produce bifenthrin.
