A Detailed Guide to Growing the Giant Bird of Paradise
The Bird of Paradise flower is also known as: 'crane flower' or 'bird of paradise'. The Bird of Paradise flower is a flowering plant of the monocotyledon group, native to South Africa. The Bird of Paradise flower is a very popular ornamental plant. So below we will introduce the growing methods for the Giant Bird of Paradise.
1. Light
It blooms well under bright light, even including some spots with direct sunlight.
2. Water
Keep the soil continuously moist throughout the year. High humidity is preferred.
3. Temperature
This is not a cold-hardy plant. The crane flower is by nature fond of warm, humid, semi-shaded environments, with an optimum temperature between 12-25 degrees, and in winter it is best kept above 5 degrees.
4. Fertilizing
During the growing season, the crane flower requires a thin liquid fertilizer watering once every half month. If grown at home, you can water it with rice-washing water or water in which soybeans have been soaked.
5. Sowing and planting
The crane flower generally does not set seed, but if hand-pollinated it can set seed. The seeds need only three months to mature. After collecting the seeds they should be sown immediately; at a seed temperature between 25-30, they will germinate in 2-3 weeks, and seedlings will only flower after three years.
