How to Effectively Control Broadleaf Weeds in Sesame Fields
Broadleaf weeds are a type of weed and are common weeds in sesame fields, so how do you control broadleaf weeds in sesame fields?
1. What are broadleaf weeds?
Broadleaf weeds, also known as dicotyledonous weeds, have embryos with two cotyledons, are herbaceous or woody, have netted leaf veins, broad leaves, and petioles.
According to their lifespan, broadleaf weeds can be divided into annual weeds and perennial weeds:
Annual broadleaf weeds reproduce by seed, and their germination depth in the soil is 0-5 cm; when controlled with herbicides, germinating weeds in shallow soil can be effectively controlled, such as lambsquarters, amaranth, shepherd's purse, and velvetleaf;
For weeds that germinate in deep soil layers, because the seeds are below the herbicide layer, it is difficult to control them with soil-surface-applied herbicides, such as cocklebur, Asiatic dayflower, and velvetleaf.
2. How to control broadleaf weeds in sesame fields
Herbicides such as fomesafen and bentazone can be used for removal. Before use, they can be tested in a small patch of sesame field, and only after there are no problems should they be used over a large area. The specific method of use of the herbicide should refer to the instructions or consult the seller.
Among them, bentazone is relatively safer and also has good control efficacy against sedges.
Applying chemicals after sesame sowing but before emergence or before transplanting for soil sealing treatment can effectively reduce the occurrence of grass weeds and broadleaf weeds in the field.
Dual Gold 960 g/L S-metolachlor emulsifiable concentrate is registered for spray soil treatment in sesame fields after sowing but before emergence, to control annual grass weeds and some broadleaf weeds, with a recommended pure chemical dosage of 720-936 grams per hectare.
After sesame sowing but before emergence or before transplanting, soil sealing treatment can also be carried out with chemicals such as thiobencarb. Use 110-140 milliliters of 90% high-efficiency thiobencarb emulsifiable concentrate per mu, add 40-50 kilograms of water, and spray, which can control grass weeds, broadleaf weeds, and sedges in the field.
