Phoxim has a broad insecticidal spectrum and strong knockdown power, acting mainly through contact and stomach poisoning; it is a low-toxicity organophosphorus insecticide that can inhibit cholinesterase activity. So, what plants is phoxim suitable for?

1. What plants is phoxim suitable for?

Phoxim can be used on crops such as cotton, grains, fruit trees, vegetables, soybeans, tea, mulberry, tobacco and forest trees to control aphids, thrips, leafhoppers, planthoppers, whiteflies, scale insects, spider mites and various lepidopteran larvae. To avoid decomposition of the active ingredient under light, foliar application should be carried out in the evening.

2. How to use phoxim

1. Stem and leaf spraying. Generally, 1000-2000 times dilution of 50% emulsifiable concentrate is used per mu, sprayed with 50 liters of water, to control wheat aphids, wheat sawflies, cotton aphids, cabbage caterpillars, thrips, armyworms, aphids on fruit trees, apple small leafrollers, pear star caterpillars, grape leafhoppers, inchworms, whiteflies, tobacco budworms, etc. Spraying 50 ml of 50% emulsifiable concentrate diluted 1000 times per mu can control rice borers, rice leafrollers, leafhoppers, planthoppers, rice thrips, cotton bollworms, red bollworms, cutworms, small gray leafhoppers, pine caterpillars, etc.

2. For seed dressing, use 100-165 ml of 50% emulsifiable concentrate, mix with 5-7.5 kg of water, and dress 50 kg of wheat seed; this can control underground pests. The seed dressing method can also be used for corn, sorghum, millet, peanut and other crop seeds.

3. To control underground pests, use 100 g of 50% emulsifiable concentrate, mix with 5 kg of water, dress 50 kg of wheat seed, pile and cover, then sow; this can control underground pests.

4. For drenching and heart irrigation, use a 1000 times dilution of 50% emulsifiable concentrate to drench and control cutworms; after 15 minutes, poisoned larvae will crawl out of the ground.

5. To control stored-grain pests, prepare phoxim into a 1.25-2.5 mg/kg solution, mix evenly with grain and pile it; this can control stored-grain pests such as rice weevils and flour beetles.

6. To control sanitary pests, spray a 500-1000 times dilution of 50% emulsifiable concentrate in livestock barns; the control effect on sanitary pests is good and it is safe for livestock.

3. Precautions for phoxim

1. It cannot be mixed with alkaline substances.

2. Cucumbers and kidney beans are sensitive to phoxim and are prone to phytotoxicity.

3. Phoxim decomposes easily when exposed to light, so field use is best done at night or in the evening.

4. Sorghum is sensitive to phoxim and should not be sprayed. In corn fields, only granules can be used to control corn borers; do not spray to control aphids, armyworms, etc.

5. Poisoning symptoms and first-aid measures are the same as for other organophosphorus insecticides.

Because phoxim is unstable to light in the field and decomposes quickly, its residual period is short and the risk of residues is small, but once the pesticide is applied into the soil, its residual period is very long, making it suitable for controlling underground pests.
