Can Asparagus Be Grown from Cuttings? Cutting Methods and Precautions
Asparagus can be grown from cuttings. Asparagus cuttings are taken from its edible stems, and because the edible stems are very tender, growing from cuttings is also the most difficult propagation method for asparagus to survive. Therefore, when propagating asparagus from cuttings, try to choose a more mature and robust edible stem, to avoid failure to survive because it is too tender and small.
1. Potting Soil Requirements for Asparagus Cuttings
Asparagus is generally grown for several years, so when choosing a pot, try to choose a larger and deeper pot for planting. The soil should be fertile sandy soil with good air permeability and not prone to waterlogging. It is recommended to use garden soil, leaf mold and river sand mixed in a 2:1:1 ratio.
2. Care for Asparagus Cuttings
Insert the asparagus into the potting soil. In this asparagus cutting propagation method, the depth should be between 3 and 5 cm, then water thoroughly and place it on the balcony. Pay attention to providing cover when it rains; only after rooting can it be exposed to rain. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and it will take root in about half a month.
