How long is the phytotoxicity period of sulfometuron-methyl?
Sulfometuron-methyl herbicide is a herbicide used in various wastelands, forest lands, forest firebreaks, airports, highways and other places. So how long is the phytotoxicity period of sulfometuron-methyl?
1. How long is the phytotoxicity period of sulfometuron-methyl
The herbicidal effect of sulfometuron-methyl can last for 3-6 months, but the residual effect can last as long as 1-2 years. It is commonly used in various wastelands, forest lands, forest firebreaks, airports, highways, railways and some coniferous nursery lands, for pre-emergence and post-emergence control of various monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous weeds and mixed shrubs.
2. How to use
This product can be used both pre-emergence and post-emergence, that is, it can be applied throughout the entire growth period from before weed germination to after germination. The best application period is when the weeds are about to germinate, or after germination when the grass height is below 5cm, or when the grass has just grown back after manual weeding. In the south it is about from February to April, and in the north about from April to June.
3. Application dosage
The application amount should be determined according to the soil type, plant species, coverage and growth and development stage, and the following principles should generally be followed:
1. Small weeds require a small dosage.
2. The dosage for perennial weeds should be increased by 1-2 times compared with annual weeds.
3. The dosage for mixed shrubs should be increased by 2-4 times compared with ordinary weeds.
4. For high organic matter content and acidic [soil], the dosage should be appropriately increased.
5. Large weed coverage. For general weeding, the dosage is generally 5-50g of active ingredient per 667 m2, the same below; for shrub elimination, the dosage is generally 70-200g per 667 m2; for nurseries, 5-8g per 667 m2, and for orchards, 5-10g per mu.
4. Precautions for use
1. Sulfometuron-methyl is sensitive to crops, and its use is absolutely prohibited;
2. Spray in clear weather with wind force below level 2, to avoid drift that may cause phytotoxicity to nearby crops;
3. Sulfometuron-methyl takes effect relatively slowly; 6-8 hours after application, the weeds stop growing, first the stems and leaves turn from green to purplish red, the terminal buds necrose, until the entire plant dies. Therefore, after application, do not re-spray or manually weed because of the slow effect;
4. Sulfometuron-methyl is not safe for small seedlings and some broadleaf trees. When using it, be sure to keep away from sensitive tree species; even for some varieties, using it under large trees several meters tall may also cause the death of the large trees;
5. After application, the spraying tools must not be washed in rivers, ditches or ponds, so as to avoid polluting agricultural water and causing crop phytotoxicity.
The herbicidal effect of sulfometuron-methyl lasts a long time, and its phytotoxicity is great. When using it, you must pay attention and use it according to the instructions.
