What is the adult form of the rice red-and-white nematode?
During the growth of rice, many pests and diseases are encountered. Sometimes when patrolling the fields, you find a cluster of rice red-and-white nematodes gathered in the paddy field. What is the adult form of the rice red-and-white nematode? How should it be controlled?
I. What is the adult form of the rice red-and-white nematode
The adult form of the rice red-and-white nematode is the rice midge (Chironomus), an insect of the genus Chironomus in the family Chironomidae. Its larvae damage the roots of rice, affecting the normal growth and development of rice, and even causing floating seedlings and dead seedlings. The rice midge generally produces four generations per year and overwinters as adults. Overwintering adults appear in late April of the following year, begin laying eggs in early May, and the first-generation larvae appear in mid-May. First-generation adults begin in late May and choose to lay eggs in plots with heavy, sticky soil such as black soil, meadow soil, saline-alkali soil, and old paddy fields; the eggs hatch into larvae after 4-5 days, and the larvae swim and burrow down to the rice roots to feed on the young roots. When the larvae grow to 2 mm, they turn red, and thereafter live on the rice roots in the active mud, continuing to cause damage. The larvae pupate after 12-14 days. Among the four generations of the rice midge, the first and second generations of larvae damage rice more severely, while the third and fourth generations of larvae, although they also live in the paddy field, basically show no damaging symptoms.
II. Control of the rice midge
1. When the rice midge occurs and causes damage, drain the field and dry it for 2-3 days.
2. Chemical control:
(1) Using copper sulfate at a rate of 100-200 grams per mu, calculate the amount for each bed, pack it into cloth bags, and place them at the water inlet so that it flows into the paddy field with the irrigation water; this both controls the pest and prevents algae. Alternatively, after draining the water, place a cloth bag containing 90% trichlorfon crystals at the water inlet, and when the water is about 1 cun deep, seal the water inlet; after 12 hours, you will find the rice midges crawling out of the water, curled up and dead from poisoning.
(2) After draining the water, apply pesticide to the soil layer in the root zone. Use 70-100 grams of 15% chlorpyrifos (Lorsban) granules per mu, or 133-200 grams of 3% carbofuran granules, mixed with soil or fertilizer and broadcast. You can also choose 48% chlorpyrifos at 50-80 milliliters per mu diluted with water for spraying, 41% abamectin · chlorpyrifos at 75-100 grams per mu diluted with water for spraying, or 90% trichlorfon crystals as a 600-fold solution for spraying, spraying 1-2 times depending on the pest situation.
The above is a basic introduction to the adult form of the rice red-and-white nematode. Only by doing a good job of nematode control can the rice roots develop faster and better.
