When growing eggplant, yellowing leaves are bound to appear, and while some cases can be relieved simply by applying a little fertilizer and watering, others require medication for control. So what should be done about dead leaves on eggplant?

1. What to do about dead leaves on eggplant?

When dead leaves first appear on eggplant, you can spray or drench the roots with 0.5% berberine at 100 times dilution plus garlic oil, or 15% hymexazol at 1000 times dilution, or 25% azoxystrobin at 800 times dilution, or 70% thiophanate-methyl at 800 times dilution, applying 200 ml per plant. If the disease has already become severe, you can use Qingku Guandianling plus garlic oil for spraying or root drenching; for spraying, apply 2-3 times consecutively at intervals of 2-3 days, and root drenching 1-2 times will provide effective control.

2. Why does eggplant develop dead leaves?

Dead leaves on eggplant are mostly caused by diseases such as Verticillium wilt and Fusarium wilt. These diseases harm the plant's leaves in the early stages and gradually spread to the roots, stems and other parts of the plant. Generally, when conditions are dry, the center of the lesion becomes brittle and cracks.

1. Verticillium wilt

Verticillium wilt is mostly caused by low temperatures and generally occurs after successful transplanting. In the early stages of the disease, the leaves wilt and gradually turn yellow, recovering in the morning and evening. However, if not treated promptly, it will spread to the whole plant, causing all the leaves to wilt until only the stems remain.

2. Root rot

In the early stages of root rot, the eggplant leaves also wilt during the day. Although the main affected part is the roots, because the roots are damaged, the absorption of nutrients and water is blocked, and over time the leaves gradually turn yellow and wilt, ultimately causing the whole plant to die from lack of water and nutrients. When the temperature reaches 26-27 degrees and the soil contains too much water, the condition will worsen. There is also Fusarium wilt of eggplant; the symptoms of Fusarium wilt are similar to those of Verticillium wilt and are also a major cause of eggplant leaf wilt and death.

Overall, dead leaves on eggplant may be caused by Verticillium wilt or root rot, and the main causes are lack of water or excessively low temperatures. Therefore, when growing eggplant, if this symptom appears, it can be controlled by spraying with agents such as thiophanate-methyl and Qingku Guandianling.
