A Detailed Guide to Summer Bean Planting Time and Management Methods
Beans are generally divided into spring cultivation and summer-autumn cultivation. Summer-autumn cultivation is sown from mid-May to early August and harvested from early July to late October. So what are the management techniques for summer beans?
1. Soil selection
In the hot summer weather, when planting beans, try not to choose land that has just been planted with beans or land where other legumes have been grown, so as to avoid the many effects of continuous cropping on the bean root system. Continuous cropping makes beans very prone to disease. Before planting, the soil should be deeply plowed and enough base fertilizer applied, avoiding excessively alkaline soil. Only by adjusting the soil pH value well can the beans grow properly; soil is also very important.
2. Seed selection
When planting long beans in summer, they grow in an open-air environment, and the peak growing season is also in a season with high temperatures and frequent rainy periods. Choosing the variety is very important. Although long beans themselves have a certain heat tolerance, when planting in summer you should still choose some bean varieties with heat tolerance and stronger resistance, so that they can grow rapidly in the hot summer, have strong resistance, endure the summer's hot high temperatures, and thus achieve a good harvest.
3. Pinching off the top
Once beans have shown signs of summer dormancy, we can pinch off the top of the main vine to weaken the top's growth advantage and encourage the beans to produce more side branches, which will then flower and bear fruit again. This method is recommended for frequent use.
4. Growth regulators
Growers can use growth regulators, and it is recommended to use benzylaminopurine for spraying. Benzylaminopurine can quickly regulate bean growth, so the beans grow more side vines, bloom more, and set more beans.
