A mango seed is the stone of the mango. When we finish eating a mango, we find a stone inside, and this can be kept for planting. So, how do you plant a mango seed?

1. How to plant a mango seed

1. The sowing period is June-July, the mango ripening season, because the seeds are fresh, easy to obtain, and the time coincides with high temperature and humidity, so the survival rate after sowing is high. For seed selection, plump stones are best. When sowing, you can use seeds from fresh fruit that are about 20 days old, rinse off the remaining flesh a little, and dry them in the shade.

2. Before sowing, the shell must first be removed. To do this, use pruning shears held in reverse to grip the tail end of the stone, twist downward along the suture line, tear open one side of the shell, then turn it over and tear open the other side. The larger the opening, the easier it is to take out the embryo kernel inside the stone, but try not to damage the embryo kernel. If you occasionally damage a little, it will not harm its germination and development, because mango seeds have a hard outer seed coat (shell) that affects germination. First removing the outer seed coat and covering with 2 cm of soil can effectively increase the germination rate.

3. When sowing, the kernel should be upright, using the triangular planting method, with the hilum facing down. Do not sow it flat, because this will cause uneven sprouting. About 7 days after sowing, it can germinate.

Usually the mango stone you buy cannot grow. Mangoes shipped from elsewhere are picked when unripe and then ripened artificially. Their stones are not mature and cannot reproduce. Mature mango stones can reproduce, but grafting is generally used for propagation.
