How to Plant Mango Saplings? Mastering the Correct Planting Method Is Key
The mango tree is a tropical economic fruit tree native to India, Malaysia and Myanmar, and it is currently widely planted in Yunnan, Guangxi and other places in China. So how do you plant a mango sapling you have bought?
1. How to plant mango saplings?
1. Site selection and land preparation
Mango is suitable for planting on plots with deep soil, good drainage, a not-too-high groundwater level, soil rich in organic matter, strong air permeability, and a pH value of 5.5-7.0. Dig the holes 2-3 months before planting, apply decomposed pig manure, cow manure or farmyard manure, and superphosphate to each hole, and mix the fertilizer with the topsoil and return it to the hole.
2. Planting
For mango planting, planting in June-August is preferable, but it should also be determined according to the actual conditions such as soil, region and variety. Generally, planting can be done in September-October in the southwest and south, and in March-May in non-arid areas. The best time for planting is on a cloudy day or before rain. When planting, make sure the root system is spread out, and the depth should be such that the root crown is level with the soil surface. After planting, water thoroughly to settle the roots and add a mulch.
3. Field management
Fertilization: For young trees, nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers are the main ones, appropriately combined with potassium fertilizer. Start topdressing when 1-2 flushes of shoots emerge after planting. Apply topdressing once each in March, May, July and September, and in June-August, combined with green manuring and hole expansion, apply additional organic fertilizer.
Irrigation: When fertilizing and pruning mango trees after fruit harvest, if high-temperature and dry weather is encountered, appropriate irrigation is needed. Irrigate until thoroughly soaked, and generally stop irrigation after mid-November. The irrigation method and amount of water should be determined according to the conditions of the fruit trees in the orchard. Generally, the method of irrigating in the fertilization furrows is used, and the amount of water should be just enough to keep the soil moist.
Pruning: For the shaping and pruning of young trees, start pinching or heading back when the seedlings are 80-100 cm tall after planting. Cultivate the main trunk and main branches to sprout shoots, and pinch the tips of the secondary main branches when they extend 60-70 cm.
4. Pest and disease control
During the mango tree planting process, attention should be paid to preventing and controlling invasions by pests and diseases such as the mango shoot borer, lawana imitata, longhorn beetles, fruit flies, anthracnose, powdery mildew and gummosis, and spraying should be carried out in advance for control.
Planting mango saplings is not very difficult, and the time to bear fruit is not very long. Generally, it is enough to do the relevant management work well.
