Lotus seed, a traditional Chinese medicine name. It is distributed in the northern and southern provinces of China. So where do lotus seeds come from? Which production area has the best lotus seeds? The details are organized as follows:
China's three famous lotus seeds: Jianlian [Jianning, Sanming, Fujian], Wuyi Xuanlian [Wuyi, Jinhua, Zhejiang Province], Xianglian [Yuetang District, Xiangtan, Hunan]
1. Jianlian
Jianning lotus seeds, abbreviated as “Jianlian”, are produced in Jianning, Jianyang, Pucheng, Chong'an and other counties in the mountainous areas of northern Fujian. These counties historically fell under the jurisdiction of Jianning Prefecture, so the lotus seeds they produce are collectively called “Jianlian”. The lotus ponds of Jianning generally choose plots with deep soil, fertile soil, good water quality, and shelter from the wind and facing the sun. There are springs in the ponds, and the pond water is warm in winter and cool in summer, creating excellent conditions for the growth of lotus seeds.
2. Wuyi Xuanlian
Wuyi's Xuanlian, together with Xianglian from Xiangtan, Hunan, and Jianlian from Jianning, Fujian, are ranked as China's three famous lotus seeds. The production area of Xuanlian is in Liucheng She Ethnic Town in our county. Cultivation began during the Xianqing period of the Tang Dynasty (656-660), and it is famous for its large grains, round shape, plump and thick flesh, tender and delicious taste, rich nutrition, and high medicinal value. In the sixth year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1802), it was listed as a tribute to the imperial court. Last year, the county's Xuanlian planting area reached more than 3,700 mu, with an output value of 4,500 yuan per mu, an annual output of 210 tons, and an annual output value of 16.65 million yuan. Wuyi Xuanlian has won awards many times at national, provincial, and municipal agricultural and sideline products trade fairs.
3. Xiangtan Xianglian
Xiangtan Xianglian is a specialty of Xiangtan City, Hunan Province. “Xianglian”, also known as Cunsanlian, has a cultivation history of two to three thousand years to date. Xianglian grains are large and plump, white and round, fine in texture, fragrant and fresh-sweet, and have the effects of lowering blood pressure, strengthening the spleen and stomach, calming the mind and securing essence, and moistening the lungs and clearing the heart. In history it was called “tribute lotus”, and is hailed as “China's number one lotus seed”.
