Passion fruit is also known as granadilla, Brazilian fruit, vine peach, passion fruit, wandering-heart lotus, and wandering-branch lotus. It originated in Brazil and is now cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. So how do you plant its seeds?

How do you plant passion fruit seeds?

1. Seed collection

Select plants that are vigorous, free of pests and diseases, and high-yielding and stable-yielding as mother plants. Harvest fruit that is well-shaped, slightly heavy, and fully ripe, take out the seeds, wash off the residue, and dry them.

2. Sowing

When sowing, mix 1 kg of seeds with 10—20 g of carbendazim for about 20 minutes, then evenly broadcast the seeds on the seedbed, cover with a thin layer of grass, and water thoroughly. After sowing, water according to the weather; on sunny days, spray water once in the morning and once in the evening. Seedlings begin to emerge after about half a month. Sowing can be done in all four seasons of the year, but spring and autumn are best.

3. Seedling management

When more than 80% of the seedlings have emerged, topdressing should be applied promptly. Diluted liquid fertilizer or diluted urea solution can be splashed on to cultivate strong seedlings. Transplant when the seedlings have grown 4 true leaves. The upright fence type is mainly used; for garden cultivation, a trellis type can be used. For block planting, the row and plant spacing is 3×2 m. Plant 111 plants per mu.

In fact, in addition to sowing, passion fruit can also be planted by layering and cuttings, with February to March in spring being the suitable time.
