Crazy waterweed is an aquatic plant, often used in ecological restoration for steady-state conversion, and has important application value, especially needed when keeping ornamental fish at home. So, how do you plant crazy waterweed?

1. How to plant crazy waterweed?

Mix the bottom sand with base fertilizer and spread it evenly across the bottom of the fish tank, to a thickness of about 2cm. Scatter the crazy waterweed seeds onto the bottom sand, spray an appropriate amount of water, then cover the outside of the fish tank with a layer of plastic film, and next poke a few small holes in the plastic film, keeping the temperature between 25-30°C. After 3-5 days they will sprout; after sprouting, pour a small amount of water into the fish tank, and finally just carry out routine daily care.

2. The Value of Crazy Waterweed

1. Supplying Oxygen

Under light, waterweed continuously releases oxygen into the water and likewise into the bottom layer; frankly speaking, no artificial equipment can perform the same function. In an aquarium, oxygen is released into the water in a form dissolved in water, but in some cases it is visible, for example tiny oxygen bubbles may rise from damaged leaf surfaces to the water surface. Light is the importance of oxygen within the aquarium.

2. Consuming Waste

Fish metabolism produces large amounts of organic matter which is then absorbed by the waterweed; this matter is mainly compounds of nitrogen and phosphate. If their levels in the aquarium are not reduced, they will cause excessive growth of algae. Providing surfaces for bacterial activity, bacteria in the aquarium complete a very important yet hard-to-see task: they continuously decompose and recombine certain compounds. Without these bacteria, they could pose a threat to the aquarium or the fish. Therefore they need a lot of activity space, whether on the bottom bed, inside the filter, or even on the waterweed; this is another important function of waterweed. So at the initial stage of setting up an aquarium, we need to plant dense waterweed in the aquarium, so that many useless bacteria are also decomposed through the waterweed. In fact, this still depends on the nitrifying bacteria attached to the surface of the waterweed to achieve.

3. Ornamental Value

Waterweed has graceful shapes and diverse colors, elegant and charming; planted in an aquarium and paired with decorations such as river sand and driftwood, it looks beautiful and generous, becoming one of the best decorations and objects of appreciation in the aquarium.

Although planting crazy waterweed takes some effort, it has strong growth ability, can provide a good living place for fish, and can also add a touch of color to the fish tank.
