Philodendron, also known as Xilin philodendron, is a large foliage plant that is deeply loved by plant enthusiasts for being easy to grow and highly ornamental. Many people like to keep one at home, so what are the propagation methods for Philodendron?

1. Seed propagation

(1) Collecting seeds: at the end of December, collect the ripe Philodendron fruits and put them in the sun to dry, then peel out the seeds, remove the membranous coating on the surface, and store them; they can be used in the spring of the following year.

(2) Treating the seeds: take out the seeds, select healthy, plump ones, and soak them in water for three to four hours. After three to four hours, remove the seeds, let them dry, mix them evenly into moist sand, and then sow them into the soil. Finally, cover with a thin layer of soil and put on a layer of plastic film to retain moisture.

(3) Later management techniques: after sprouts appear, remove the plastic film, then spray a fungicide once every 7-10 days, water a little at noon on sunny days, and after 20-25 days roots will have formed; when the roots grow to about 2cm, they can be potted up.

2. Cutting propagation

(1) Cutting time: March to April; cuttings can be taken when the average temperature is above 15 degrees.

(2) Cutting method: cut a section of woody branch 1-2 years old from a healthy Philodendron plant, then cut it into 15-20 cm long stem sections and insert them into the soil by 1/3-1/2.

(3) Post-cutting management techniques: after cutting, keep the soil moist and do not expose it to the sun for the time being. If the humidity is not enough, cover it with a layer of plastic film, then uncover it during the day to let it breathe. After roots grow, remove the plastic film, and just do a good job with watering and fertilizing.

Overall, Philodendron is very easy to propagate whether by seed or by cuttings, but cuttings are relatively simpler: just cut a section of stem and insert it into the soil.
