How to Grow Hypericum Berries: A Full Guide to Cultivation Methods and Precautions
Hypericum berries are a premium ornamental-fruit cut flower today; the most common form is a bunch of cute large red berries, bright red in color, delicate and charming, with vivid hues. So how do you grow Hypericum berries?
1. Hypericum berries generally keep for about one week, or about 2 weeks with good care, extending the flower's blooming time. When you bring the Hypericum berries home, re-cut the bottom stems. That is, place the flower stems in water and use scissors to cut the stems shorter directly in the water. The purpose of this is to promote the stems' water-absorbing ability. If the water temperature is around 7 degrees, the effect is best. This is because the water helps expel air bubbles from the stems, forming a smooth water-absorbing channel to extend the flower's life.
2. Crushing the end method: crush the end of the stem at a point about one inch from the tip to expand the water-absorbing area. Singeing method: hold the end of the flower stem over a candle flame until it is charred, then immediately soak it in an alcohol solution for one minute, then rinse with clean water.
3. Keeping Hypericum berries in plain water alone does not give ideal results. To keep Hypericum berries fresh, you can add an appropriate amount of sugar to the water, because sugar can supply the energy the fresh flowers need.
4. Remove the lower leaves, and remove unattractive leaves and berries; cut a small section off the bottom of the stem at a 45° angle, adjust the length according to the height of the vase, with the flower heads 15-20CM from the vase being ideal.
5. You can fill the vase with 1/2 clean water, with the water level ideally covering 10-15CM of the roots; change the water, wash the stems and trim the roots every 1-2 days, and if the water becomes cloudy, change it immediately; when changing the water, also wash the vase to keep it clean.
The berries of Hypericum are delicate and charming, can accent all four seasons, and have excellent ornamental value. Its flower meaning is: because of you, I understand what eternity means.
