How are black goji berry seedlings grown?

1. Planting

Black goji berry has no strict soil requirements and can grow in sandy soil, sandy loam, clay, and saline-alkali land. Choose to plant the purchased black goji berry seedlings in mid-to-early April each year after they have been properly prepared, setting them in the prepared plot. The planting holes are 30 cm deep and 30 cm in diameter. Topsoil and subsoil are piled separately. When backfilling soil, put the topsoil at the bottom and the subsoil on top. The size of the planting pit, the row and plant spacing, and the planting density are determined according to the actual site conditions and the size of the seedlings.

2. Watering

Irrigate immediately before and after planting the seedlings, with an irrigation amount of 30 cubic meters/667 sq m, then irrigate once again after 15 days. After the seedlings have completely survived, irrigate once every 25-30 days. Before flowering, the total water use should not exceed 40 cubic meters/667 sq m. During the flowering and fruiting period, the total water use should not exceed 120 cubic meters/667 sq m. The total water use during the whole growth period should not exceed 400 cubic meters/667 sq m.

3. Fertilizing

One month after planting black goji berry seedlings, apply urea at 5 kg/667 sq m. During the flowering and fruiting period, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer at 20-25 kg/667 sq m. The total amount of fertilizer applied during the whole growth period should not exceed 60 kg/667 sq m.

4. Cultivating and weeding

After the seedlings have completely survived, use bamboo poles or cement stakes with wire to secure the seedlings so as to cultivate the tree shape; prevent the fruit from touching the ground, becoming moldy and deteriorating when exposed to water, and facilitate labor operations such as fruit picking.

5. Pruning

When pruning, you can choose one robust branch as the main stem part and cut off all the others. This can ensure robust growth of the main stem and make it easier to shape a complete tree form. When the plant reaches a height of 60 m, the main stem needs to be cut off, and after pruning, apply nitrogen fertilizer at 50 kg.

During cultivation, black goji berry is easily harmed by 3 types of pests and diseases: cutworms, goji berry psyllids, and goji berry leaf beetles. In addition to spraying pesticides in advance for prevention and control, timely clearing of the orchard is also one of the main means of control.
