How to Plant Firethorn Seeds? A Detailed Guide to the Planting Method
Firethorn can bloom in spring, and the fruit it produces is also very beautiful. Its ornamental value is relatively high. So how do you plant firethorn seeds? Let's take a look together.
1. Seed selection
Firethorn fruit matures every autumn, and the seeds of mature fruit can be used for propagation. Note that you should choose fruit with very plump flesh, as seeds from these are of higher quality. If you are buying firethorn seeds, also choose top-quality ones that are undamaged and disease-free, preferably seeds that were harvested recently, scientifically treated, and preserved, which can give a higher germination rate.
2. Soil preparation
Sowing firethorn seeds should be done in suitable soil; it likes loose, fertile soil with good drainage. Before sowing, the land should also be carefully prepared: first disinfect it, then dig the soil deeply to a depth of about 30 cm, then apply enough base fertilizer and level the ground.
3. Sowing
Firethorn seeds are generally sown in March each year, as the climate in this season is very suitable for its seeds to germinate and grow. The sowing method is very simple: scatter the seeds evenly, cover them with a layer of fine sand until the seeds can no longer be seen. After sowing is completed, also cover with straw to keep them warm and water thoroughly, and they will germinate quickly.
4. Management
After firethorn seeds are sown, water them once every seven days, and there should be no standing water in the soil, otherwise the root system will develop problems. In addition, during the seedling stage, the temperature needs to be kept at around 20 degrees; if the temperature is too high, spray water to cool it down, and if the temperature is too low, take good insulation measures. Also promptly do a good job of weeding and pest prevention so that no hidden dangers arise in its growth.
Firethorn can be planted in the open ground or grown as a potted plant. Its leaves remain green all year round, and the fruit it produces is bright red, very cute, with very high ornamental value.
