How to Plant a Large Mango Seed? A Detailed Guide to the Planting Method
Mango is a tropical fruit, rich in vitamins and other nutrients, and a fruit many people love to eat. So how do you plant a large mango seed? Let's take a look!
1. The growth habits of mango
Mango is an evergreen large tree of the Anacardiaceae family, native to India. Its fruit is yellow when ripe, fairly sweet in taste, and has a rather hard stone.
Mango fruit contains sugar, protein, and crude fiber. The provitamin A carotene content in mango is especially high, which is rarely seen among fruits. Next, its vitamin C content is also not low. Minerals, protein, fat, sugars, and so on are also its main nutrients.
Mango generally produces 6-8 flushes of shoots per year during the seedling stage and in young trees, 2-4 flushes in young fruiting trees, and 1-2 flushes in mature trees. Shoots produced from March to May are spring shoots, from June to August are summer shoots, from September to November are autumn shoots, and from December to February are winter shoots. In Hainan, autumn shoots are the main fruiting mother branches. However, spring and summer shoots can also become fruiting mother branches, and under good conditions, the winter shoots produced by certain varieties from December to January can also flower and bear fruit. From bud break to the cessation of shoot growth and leaf maturity takes 15-35 days. Summer and autumn shoots take a shorter time, while winter shoots take longer. Shoot growth and root growth proceed alternately.
2. How do you plant a large mango seed?
First, wash the mango stone clean, then carefully remove the hard outer shell. Soak the intact seed you take out in water to sprout. Once it has sprouted, it can be planted in soil, but it should not be planted too deep. After planting, simply water it on time and give it plenty of light.
If it is difficult to remove the hard skin from a mango stone right after eating the fruit, you can put it in the sun to dry, and then work on it. The seed you take out must be intact, otherwise the germination rate will be affected.
Mango is a tropical plant, so it is best to grow it on a balcony. Mango growth not only has temperature requirements, but also cannot do without the nourishment of water, so it should be watered in time.
